Cabbage stew


  • White cabbage 1 medium sized
  • Onions 2 medium sized
  • Olive oil 1/2 cup
  • Tomato sauce 1 can
  • Tomato paste 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - pepper
  • Red pepper 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili peppers optional
  • Water as much as needed


In a pan or in a skillet saute the coarsely chopped onions in the olive oil.Cut off the bottom of the cabbage to get rid of the coarse stem,cut the cabbage into four pieces,wash it and peel off the leaves.Put the leaves in the pan with the sauteed onion(if you want to add the red chili peppers,saute the with the cabbage).Stir gently and constantly until the cabbage wilts and its volume has reduced.Add the tomato sauce,the tomato paste,season with salt,pepper,red  pepper and a little water just to cover the cabbage.Let it simmer for 30-40 minutes,if you use a skillet simmer for 15-20 minutes.
