Baked meatballs with onions


  • Ground beef 700 gr
  • Bread crumbs 2-3 slices
  • Potato 1 item grated
  • Garlic 2 cloves finely chopped
  • Egg 1 item
  • Olive oil 1/2 cup
  • Onions 6-7 items
  • White wine 1 glass or pink wine
  • Salt - pepper - paprika
  • Spearmint dry or fresh 1 teaspoon or 2 sprigs
  • Parsley 1/2 small bunch finely chopped for sprinkle
  • Kefalograviera cheese optionally for sprinkle
  • Water 1/2 glass lukewarm


Soak the bread,drain it and put it in a bowl with the ground beef.In blender grate the onion,the garlic and the potato,add them to the ground beef.Season with salt,pepper and paprika,add the spearmint,the egg and 4 tablespoons of olive oil.Knead all the ingredients together until they combine,cover the mixture and refrigerate it.Cut the remaining onions into round slices.In a swallow pan heat the remaining olive oil until hot,add the onions,saute,season with salt,pepper,paprika,continue sauteing,pour the wine and stir until evaporated and add the water.Remove the onions from the heat,put them in a roasting pan,shape the ground beef into medium sized meatballs,place them on the onions spread in the roasting pan and bake in preheated oven at 180 degrees for 40 – 45 minutes approximately.If necessary add some more water.Remove it from the oven,sprinkle with the finely chopped parsley and the grated kefalograviera cheese ( optional ) and it is ready to be served.
